TIAA-CREF Southern Service Data Center

Kroll Security Group (KSG) was retained in 1999 by Childress Klein Properties on behalf of Teachers Insurance and Annuities Association – College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF) to provide a complete assessment, master planning, design, engineering, acquisition and implementation oversight services for security at their new 1.2 million gsf campus being constructed in Charlotte, NC.

The TIAA-CREF site, known as their Southeast Service Center, is comprised of office buildings, parking garages, a data center and other ancillary support operations for the corporation.  KSG was tasked with assessing the overall campus threat and risk for this 80+acre campus.

Based on the assessment KSG developed a master plan for the security program including systems deployment, security staffing requirements, and various policies and procedures development.

Security Systems Designed Include:

  • Access Control and Alarm Monitoring
  • Closed Circuit Television Systems
  • Security Command Center and Alternate Operations Command Center
  • Badging System
  • Dedicated Intercom / Emergency Communications System
  • Security Gatehouses & Vehicle Barriers
  • Vehicle Access Control

The systems were designed to support the first three buildings constructed, as well as a possible five additional buildings.  Systems were also designed to support enterprise operations with other TIAA-CREF sites across the U.S.

The project was completed in phases with the last of five structures being completed in 2003.
