The Orange County Courthouse project consisted of a new 155,000 square foot addition that was physically connected to the existing county building complex. A limited amount of the existing complex also underwent renovations as a result of the new facility.
Kroll Security Group (KSG) provided security consulting services as a member of the architectural design team led by Ehrenkrantz, Eckstut & Kumn Architects.
KSG’s services included the planning, design, and installation management services of the electronic security systems for the project.
These systems included:
These separate electronic systems were designed for event based integration for monitoring and control at a centralized security operations center. In addition, KSG was responsible for the design and integration of lobby screening measures to include magnetometer and X-ray equipment. This equipment was physically and operationally integrated with the lobby court security office post also located within the lobby space. The facility also included a sizable prisoner holding and movement facility that was designed and managed independently from the courthouse.
One of the challenging aspects of this project was the coordination and integration of the new facility with the existing county complex. The new portion of the project contained current security best practices and technology whereas the existing buildings were slightly outdated. As such, KSG was responsible for addressing security measures at all interface points, and was required to coordinate the integration and compatibility of technology between the two spaces.
