King's County Hospital Center

Brooklyn, New York

Kroll Security Group was commissioned to assist in the planning and infrastructure design for a new Patient Tower at Kings County Hospital Center.

The 7-story, 265,000 square foot Patient Tower, which opened December 2001, was designed to offer a modern setting for inpatient services, including all private and semi-private rooms with handicapped accessible bathrooms and showers, picture windows, personal televisions, patient and family lounges, on-site examination and treatment rooms and a fully climate controlled environment.

The Kings County Hospital Center is a major teaching hospital and principal healthcare provider for the central Brooklyn community.  As a member of the Health and Hospitals Corporation, it provides care to an underserved, often poorly insured patient population.

The hospital previously operated twenty buildings, ranging in age from forty to eighty-five years on a 44-acre site.  Consequently, the major client goal was to replace outdated facilities with smaller, flexible and efficient new buildings.  In doing so, the project would conceivably reduce operating costs and upgrade the patient experience to meet appropriate standards of care.
