Kroll Security Group (KSG) provided the development of a comprehensive security master plan for the Kansas Statehouse Restoration and Renovation project and planning and design of security systems for the South Wing Renovation.
The restoration and renovation project included the new addition of a visitor’s center built under the grand staircase of the Statehouse entry, a new 2-level, 561 car underground parking garage situated below the north lawn of the Capitol, new underground vaults for additional office space and new mechanical systems, a cafeteria, a north plaza, and the renovation and restoration of the entire Statehouse.
The Statehouse security systems were renovated to accommodate the new security requirements. KSG designed the following security systems:
- Closed Circuit Television System (CCTV)
- Access Control
- Alarm Monitoring
- Intercom Communications
The security design for the Statehouse South Wing involves two phases, the interim security design (while South Wing is under construction) and the complete security design. Much of the interior space is being restored to its earlier grandeur and includes the restoration of the Governor's office to it’s circa 1900 design.
The Security Command Center (located in the Docking Office Building) houses the systems that support the Statehouse facility. KSG designed the following security systems for the South Wing:
- Security Management System (SMS)
- Surveillance Video System
- Access Control
- Intrusion Detection
Because of the historical relevance of the building, as well as the challenge of integrating new security technology into existing, outdated areas, there was extensive consideration within the new design recommendations.
