Capital Metropolitan Transit Authority (Capital Metro) provides bus transportation services in the Austin, Texas area. The agency transports more than 130,000 passengers daily from 4,000 stops all over Central Texas. Its fixed route bus service includes 53 metro routes, five downtown circulator routes and eight Express routes.
In addition, Capital Metro contracts to provide 20 shuttle routes for the University of Texas at Austin. The UT shuttles carry another 20,000 passengers on a typical day. Capital Metro also offers 56 AISD school routes, and carpooling coordination, shuttles to special events and special transit services for the elderly and disabled.
A commuter rail plan, under the authority of Capital Metro, is underway and scheduled for completion in 2009.
