Designed by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, the American Folk Art Museum in New York has been bestowed much attention and has won many awards including an American Institute of Architects National Honor Award; the World Architecture Awards for Best Building in the World, Best Public/Cultural Building in the World, and Best North American Building, as well as the New York City American Institute of Architects Design Award; and the Municipal Art Society New York City Masterwork Award.
The museum proclaims the importance of folk art as a vital component of the mainstream artistic expression, and celebrates the extraordinary accomplishments of ‘ordinary’ people making it one of the leading institutions dedicated to the exhibition and preservation of folk art.
From the 18th and 19th century paintings, and sculptures to the dynamic work of contemporary self-taught artists, the museum’s extraordinary collection reveals a spectrum of American Expression. Works by more than 100 contemporary artists, as well as numerous examples of older folk art, are included in the American Folk Art Museum collections. The museum has ongoing special exhibitions, with an excellent selection on permanent display.
Kroll Security Group provided security planning, design and installation management services for the project.
